NEW ZEALAND EDUCATION SYSTEM
Quality Assurance

To ensure that both the Government and individuals are investing in quality education, training and assessment, the Government has set up nationally recognized processes of quality assurance. There are a number of government appointed bodies responsible for approving qualifications in New Zealand and for the quality that determines the delivery of qualifications. These bodies are:
New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)
responsible for approving and registering all courses and national qualifications offered at polytechnics and private training establishments.
New Zealand Vice-Chancellor's Committee (NZVCC)
responsible for approving all diplomas, undergraduate and graduate programmes offered by New Zealand universities.

Universities in New Zealand

University education was established in New Zealand in 1870 and has a similar tradition to the British university system. There are eight state-funded universities in New Zealand, all of them internationally respected for their academic and research performance: In addition to a centrally co-ordinated system of quality assurance audits at both institution and programme level, each university undertakes internal quality checks. All New Zealand universities offer a broad range of subjects in Arts, Commerce and Science. Each has developed its own specialist subjects such as Medicine, Engineering and Veterinary Science. Computer Studies, Agriculture and Environmental Studies, Sports-Science, Biotechnology, Architecture etc. Bachelor's Masters and Doctoral degrees are offered by all New Zealand universities. A range of under graduate and postgraduate diplomas is also available, along with honours programmes (usually requiring an additional year of study).

Polytechnics In New Zealand

New Zealand Polytechnics, and Institutes of Technology, are state funded and provide education and training at all levels ranging from introductory studies through to full degree programmes. A few of them offer PG programmes as well. Polytechnics and Institutes of Technology are efficient tertiary providers offering programmes which can be both academically and vocationally focused. Due to their active engagement with industry, employers and government agencies they provide programmes which are of a high academic standard and are relevant to the rapidly changing workforce on a global basis. Polytechnics offer diverse courses like Arts and Design, Travel & Tourism, Hospitality etc.

Private Training Providers (PTES)

Private training establishments are registered and their courses approved by NZQA. Institutions and schools in this sector provide a range of courses including English language, aviation flight training, air traffic control, English, business computing, dance, design and arts, religious studies, travel and tourism and training for the hospitality industry

New Zealand Education Providers will have their own English language requirements for an offer of place depending on the course selected. The following guidelines have been suggested to us by a number of Education Providers in New Zealand and reflect their experience with students from this market.
English scores in CBSE, ICSE, Maharashtra, Kolkata and Chennai boards can also be presented in lieu of IELTS reports. A 60% score in English from one of the aforementioned boards is considered equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 5.5; 65% is considered equivalent to 6.0.

INTAKES AND APPLICATION FEES

Spot Interviews

Spot Interviews are also conducted by several visiting Universities at our offices: In this case, one is required to attend an interview conducted by university staff/ faculty, who will offer the student an on the spot decision, about whether or not he is eligible for admission. Also, further relevant inquiries can be made and are usually answered by the representative.

Pre-Visa Assessment
Positive Profile Applications

To improve streamline processing of applications in order to provide excellent service, INZ New Delhi identify positive profile applications and these applications are processed to an approval in principal in 30 days.
The factors which determine a Positive Profile application are:

  • Good academic record;
  • IELTS score of at least 6.0, or evidence of having met English language entry requirements for the course of study in NZ, whichever is higher;
  • Students immediate familys verifiable evidence of funds to meet the educational and living expenses in NZ including paper trail to explain any recent high value deposits in accounts;
  • No more than two immediate family members as financial guarantors
  • Verifiable Evidence of regular source of sufficient income of financial guarantors;
  • Intended course of study relevant to qualifications and/or work experience or clearly explained in the statement of purpose
  • Demonstrated career progression opportunities
  • A gap year after study of no more than 12 months
  • Clear health & character requirements.

Exchange Rate used to calculate financial capacity for a student visa
The exchange rates are reviewed every 6 months unless there are significant changes in exchange rates which warrant an earlier review. A review was recently undertaken and it has resulted in no change being made to the current exchange rates. Current Exchange rate for Indian students is INR 39 = 1 NZD

Student Policy
  • 20 hrs. Part time work permit during academic session and full time during vacation.
  • On Successful completion of 1 year of study, students are eligible for graduate Job search visa of 1 year.
  • Certain courses like Engg, Architecture, Accounting, Animation, Childcare, Social Worker, & Trade Qualification graduates are eligible to apply for 2 years open work permit under SMC.
  • Student who study in Long Term Skills Shortage Area or Post graduate program can take their spouse who is eligible for work permit for the duration of their study, their children can study at domestic student fees.

Acceptable Evidence of Funds
INZ accept the following evidence of funds:
  • Education loan sanction letter from nationalised or multinational banks only
  • Bank statements for the past 6 months immediately preceding the date of application
  • Fixed Deposits
  • Balance in Public Provident Fund Accounts/Employers Provident Fund Accounts.
  • Post Office Accounts
  • National Saving Certificates & Kisan Vikas Patra

** Evidence of source of income should be provided for the students financial guarantors and parents; ** Documentary evidence in support of every instance of recent deposits should be provided.

Funds Transfer Scheme

The student can indicate when the visa application is lodged that they will remit the funds to the ANZ bank account. If they do this they will not be required to show INZ evidence of funds for cost of living in NZ. If all other aspects of the application are positive the application will go Positive Profile. The student will then receive an Approval in Principal (AIP) Letter requesting them to pay the course fee, deposit the cost of living funds in to the ANZ account and provide INZ evidence of this within 15 days. Visa then issued.
The funds transfer option is to facilitate student visa applications from those students who genuinely intend to study in New Zealand but may not have access to funds older than six months. Students who opt for this process will not be required to provide verifiable documentary evidence to demonstrate the source of recent funds. This option does not preclude the applicant from submitting satisfactory evidence of funds and source of income for their financial guarantors.
The funds held in New Zealand under the Funds Transfer Scheme will accrue interest during the locked in period and the student will receive the monthly accrued interest in the transaction account.
Every month you can withdraw only 1/12th of NZD 15,000 to cover your living costs from your remittance account in NZ. This however does not preclude you from having other personal bank accounts in NZ. You should withdraw the stipulated amount monthly as it becomes due. If you do not do so, the banks will advice INZ of non activity of account.
The following evidence of funds is NOT acceptable:

  • Education loan from non banking financial institutions
  • LIC or ULIP
  • Mutual funds or infrastructure bonds
  • Shares and equities
  • Evaluation of jewellery
  • Funds held with commission agents
Note: Applicant can take Overdraft or Personal load against any of the above NOT acceptable funds.

Photo Specification
  • Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 6-months old) of yourself. The photograph must be in colour and taken against a light background (white/off-white/cream/light grey etc) so that the features are distinguishable against the background.
  • The photo should be clear and of good quality.
  • It should be of high resolution and printed on high quality paper.
  • Please do not mount the photo.
  • Size of the photo should be 45 mm x 35 mm.
  • Full face (without sunglasses and normally without a hat or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background) should be visible.
Photocopies of Documents

INZ will only consider originals or certified true copies of original documents when processing applications.
All photocopies must be Certified True Copies only. Certified True Copies must be stamped or endorsed as being true copies of the originals by a person authorised by law to take statutory declarations in the applicants country or in New Zealand. Examples: a lawyer, notary public, Justice of the Peace, or court official. Where photocopies cannot be certified as a true copy of the original, the documents should be submitted in original along with the copy.

Translation of Documents

INZ can only consider documents in English or certified translations of documents that are not written in English.
Applicants must provide a certified translation for any documents not written in English excluding bank statements and it must be clear who has undertaken the translation. Translations may be prepared by:

  • language departments of secondary schools or universities, or
  • reputable people within the community who are known to translate documents accurately
  • embassies (if the translation is endorsed with the appropriate embassy seal), or
  • any other recognized private or official translation service, or
  • The Translation Service of the NZ Department of Internal Affairs.
